History

SnapLogic was founded in 2006 by Gaurav Dhillon, the founder and former CEO of Informatica and Mike Pittaro, Informatica’s Director of Customer Services; industry veterans with nearly 30 years of combined experience developing enterprise-class integration solutions.

Gaurav and Mike recognized that traditional commercial integration solutions were designed to meet a narrow set of requirements and were poorly suited for a large, and increasing number of integration activities.

Through their extensive work with customers, they discovered that the integration projects that developers spent most of their time on frequently involved interconnecting data to or from different endpoints such as files, spreadsheets, reports, public Web sites, hosted applications, and Web services. While enterprises were investing in company, costly ETL products for centralized integration projects at the Core of the enterprise, these developers were left to fend for themselves building ad hoc, fragile, and expensive hand-coded programs for data integration at the Edge.

The solution Gaurav and Mike envisioned harnessed the underling power, simplicity and open standards of the Web and applied them to data integration. By drastically simplifying the ways data can be combined, and using Web-based networking techniques they saw how to retain the flexibility of hand-coded integrations, without sacrificing enterprise-grade functionality.

In addition, they recognized how an Open Source development process would leverage the efforts of developers worldwide and accelerate end-user adoption.

Over the following year they assembled a team of integration, networking and database experts to build the SnapLogic Open Source data integration solution. What emerged was the SnapLogic data integration framework.

SnapLogic combines the simplicity of the Web and the Open Source development process and enables a building-block approach that supports interoperability, manageability and reuse of integrations to a level that is unattainable with commercial or hand-coded alternative.

In October 2007, SnapLogic launched the version 1.0 of the SnapLogic Data Integration Framework, which is rapidly being adopted by users around the world.
