Enterprise Mashups

Enterprise mashups
are browser-based applications that combine and transform data from a variety of sources. The sources can be public (e.g., Flickr, Google Maps, RSS feeds) or private (e.g., a customer list from a CRM database, a list of newsletter subscribers, a list of users who registered for trial software).

In every enterprise, there’s probably at least one group of programmers wowing co-workers with mashup prototypes that merge public data from sources like Google Maps, with internal data from sources like Web logs or shipping reports. By combining information from multiple sources, it’s possible to create new, highly informative applications that give people information that they simply haven’t had before.

The Challenge

Enterprise mashups are getting a lot of attention for their ability to deliver eye-catching views of data correlated from disparate sources.

Mashups offer great promise, but like RIAs they depend on access to data in an easily consumable form. Often these integrations are performed by someone without deep technical expertise, and often outside of the functional areas of the data’s origin. Mashups pose even greater security threats than RIAs, since they rely on data from public sources that might be infected with malware or that might serve as a channel for other security threats.

The Solution

SnapLogic makes internal data sources and applications available for enterprise mashups.

SnapLogic’s Web-based approach is ideally suited as a mashup server that can access, mix and match data for any purpose. When the data sources are also SnapLogic enabled, mashing up data is as easy as assembling Resources that perform the desired function. The graphical browser-based design environment makes assembling mashups easy, even for beginners.

Benefits

  • SnapLogic makes it easy to make internal data available as mashable data services.
  • SnapLogic Web technology enables enterprises to validate and control mashup data through proven security and control technologies, such as Web-based authentication and SSL.
  • SnapLogic Designer—SnapLogic's drag-and-drop interface for creating data integration Pipelines—makes it easy to assemble data Pipelines and configure data Resources for use in mashups.
