SnapLogic Cares at The Samaritan House

SnapLogic-Cares-LogoSnapLogic recently launched a new philanthropy program called SnapLogic Cares. The program is directly tied to our culture, which is committed to giving back to the communities through employee volunteer opportunities that give back and make a positive difference in the lives of others. SnapLogic Cares plans to sponsor regular volunteer activities for all of the U.S. office locations (San Mateo, Boulder, Boston, and New York) and soon organize activities for the international offices.

The SnapLogic San Mateo office decided to have their first volunteering event with the San Mateo Samaritan House. Their mission statement:

We mobilize the resources of our community to help those among us who are in need. Our dedicated professional staff and volunteers work together to provide food, access to shelter, healthcare, and a broad range of supportive services. We preserve dignity, promote self sufficiency, and provide hope.

Every year, they host a backpack and school supplies drive for children in poverty going back to school. This year, SnapLogic participated by running our own backpack drive. We set up blue bins around the office for employees to donate packed backpacks with school supplies for children in grades K-12. We also collected $2,065 in monetary donations to send directly to the Samaritan House. The collection ran for about a month, and then at the end of the month some employees went to the Samaritan House to volunteer their time.

When we got to the Samaritan House, we were greeted by Carol Laughlin, the Director of Volunteers. She brought us to a big room where they keep some of their donations. Our job was to first organize and unpack all of the boxes of school supplies donated, then to start packing the backpacks received. For the packing process, we were given two different lists for elementary school and middle/high school so we split into two teams. After a couple hours of packing, we managed to pack over 50 backpacks!

All in all, it was a great experience volunteering with the Samaritan House. The employees that we met were all helpful and curious to learn what SnapLogic does. They made sure we were comfortable by providing us with plenty of water and snacks, including some deliciously cute mini cupcakes. It’s an awesome feeling building a community in San Mateo, and an even better feeling knowing that we made a child very excited to go back to school with new school supplies. The experience was also great from a team-building perspective, and gave us the opportunity to take time away from work and have fun together while doing something good for others.
