That’s how Dion Hinchcliff describes what enterprises are trying to achieve with mashups and Web 2.0 techniques. I’m not sure I agree that we’re “well clear of the early hype of Web 2.0”, but there certainly is genuine interest within enterprises on how these trends can impact their businesses.
The IBM Mashup Ecosystem Summit next week is clearly evidence of this. I’ll be there and I’m looking forward to discussing the potential for enterprise mashups. One thing that is pretty clear is that enterprise mashup are (or at least should be) a lot more than simply mashing something onto Google Maps. A problem that Dion recognizes is that enterprises still need to ‘mashup-enable’ their content and service silos.
I think that’s a great question and one I hope to discuss with him next week.
