Groundplex – Overview & Explanation

What is a Groundplex?

A Groundplex is a self-managed runtime environment that an organization deploys and operates within its own infrastructure, whether on-premises, in a private cloud, or in a virtual private cloud (VPC). Unlike a cloud-managed runtime, a Groundplex is installed and maintained by the organization itself, giving teams full control over the execution environment.

What is a Groundplex used for?

Groundplexes are commonly used when integrations need to access data sources that sit behind a corporate firewall, such as on-premises databases, ERP systems, or legacy applications. Because the runtime operates within the organization’s own network, data does not need to leave the private environment to be processed, which can support data residency and security requirements.

How does a Groundplex work?

A Groundplex communicates with the integration platform’s control plane over a secure outbound connection, allowing it to be managed centrally without requiring inbound firewall rules. It is one of two primary runtime deployment options, alongside a Cloudplex for cloud-hosted execution.
