The Cloud is not a Computer…

That’s what Rafe Needleman says over at Webware. He’s describing a nifty little iPhone app called iCopy that implements Copy/Paste by accessing a website and using a cookie as a clipboard.

Rafe make his point about using the right tool for the job, but in another sense, the use of the cloud for iPhone Cut/Paste is exactly what cloud computing is best at. Preston Monroe is just like any other person with a job that needs to get done. He can’t get it through traditional means and simply finds an alternative. Cloud Computing enable a level of self serve IT that was never possible before. Just like SaaS enabled departments to avoid the IT bottleneck within their organizations, Cloud Computing is a way in which generic compute resources are available self service, on-demand.

I love it.
